KAYAKING TRIPS

All guided kayaking trips focus on the history in and around the area. We also point out wildlife we come across and features of the area. All trips include kayaks, paddles and life jackets. Equipment is disinfected between uses and we practice social distancing as best we can in our activities.

Guided Kayaking Trips Include:

Cedar Creek in Congaree National Park

Cedar Creek is a beautiful black-water stream running through Congaree National Park. Our trip is a 3 hour “out and back” guided trip. You will see Bald Cypress, Tupelo, Pine and Willow Oak trees along this slow-moving creek. Some of the trees in Congaree National Park are record holders! The park is also teeming with wildlife from wild boar, otter, deer, various birds and yes, creepy crawlies!

Our trips focus on the history in and around the park and start at South Cedar Creek Canoe/Kayak Launch in the National Park. (It is a 7-10 min drive from the Visitor’s Center.) We ask that you arrive at least 15 mins before the start time listed.

Your trip includes your kayak, vest, paddle and a guide familiar with the area. Cost is $80 per person.

  • Gratuity: Tips are always appreciated.
  • Dress: Wear what you’re comfortable in and don’t mind getting dirty or wet.
  • We ask that you apply any bug spray in the parking lot before heading down to the landing.
  • There are basic bathrooms at the landing (no running water)

Yes, you need to have a vest for the dog, and we ask it not be over 40 pounds. (Disclaimer: dogs can make kayaks a little tipsy and see the next question)

Yes, we may see 1-2 Alligators during the summer along Cedar Creek. They tend to mind their own business.

Yes. We will give general kayaking instructions before we start and will be right there with you to help out.

Our lead guides have over 20 years combined experience kayaking in Congaree National Park. They are all trained in on-water rescue, CPR and 1st aid. They routinely attend classes/seminars involving Congaree National Park and are avid National Park travelers!

We use a sit on top kayak with an elevated seat and adjustable back rest. They are the most comfortable way to experience Congaree National Park!

Single kayaks have a limit of 300 pounds and tandems have a limit of 500 pounds.

We can’t guarantee anything. There are different types of wildlife at different times of the year. Our guides are trained to know what critters inhabit Congaree National Park and are pretty good at spotting them!

We know travel plans can change at a moment's notice. With that in mind we offer 100% hassle-free refunds with at least 24 hours' notice of your trip, regardless of the reason. If under 24 hours we offer a 50% refund. No shows are not refunded.

Lake Murray | 5 Towers Paddle!

This trip starts on the Irmo side of the dam (Dominion Energy Park) and paddle around a nearby cove. We then head over to the Columbia Sailing club before heading out to the 5 Towers that are icons in the area. During your trip we will share some of the history of the dam and the area.

Cost: Lake Murray | 5 Towers Paddle cost is $40 per person. This includes your kayaking gear and trip guide. Note: The park may charge you $5 to park.

Kayaking trip on Lake Murray to watch the Sunset! It’s a great way to view the sunset over Lake Murray! We’ll meet at the Dominion Recreation area on the Irmo side of the Dam (Note that you may have to pay $5 to park) and paddle around a cove and then towards the towers where we’ll stop and watch the sunset. Cost is only $40 per person! Reserve your spot today as they are limited!

Dreher Island State Park

This is a wonderful 3 hour trip paddling around the Dreher Island State Park. We make 2 stops on this trip. We make a stop on a peninsula where there is an active Osprey Nest that we can observe from a distance. Ospreys are a protected bird in South Carolina and many find their home on Lake Murray. Our 2nd stop is in a nice cove where we take a break for some swimming. This trip is about 4.5 miles in length and is great for beginners! Wildlife that can be seen on this trip includes Ospreys, Turtles, Snakes, Hawks, Woodpeckers and an occasional Bald Eagle

Cost: Dreher Island State Park Paddle cost is $60 per person. This includes your kayaking gear and trip guide.
